Another lover of American history has just signed our petition supporting a “pig pardon” in the White House Rose Garden this fall.
The PigPardon08 campaign mission is three-fold: to stimulate children's interest in American history, correct a long-held misunderstanding about one of our most important national holidays, and help feed the needy.
The campaign has garnered significant media attention and has been featured in The Washington Post, Newsweek, The Christian Science Monitor and many other media outlets.
The campaign uses the educational children’s book, Pardon Me. It’s Ham, Not Turkey, to teach children how the Thanksgiving celebration at Berkeley, Virginia, predated the Pilgrims’ in Massachusetts by nearly two years.
In 1963, President John F. Kennedy acknowledged the Virginia Thanksgiving, and President George W. Bush delivered the National Thanksgiving Address from Berkeley Plantation last fall.
As an award-winning publisher of quality children’s books and a supporter of children’s literacy, we encourage you to get behind this worthy cause.
An official request for a pardon has been sent to the White House, and the First-Thanksgiving Initiative has gained the support of the History Channel as well as political leaders on both sides of the aisle.
Please help us set the historical record straight by supporting a Presidential Pig Pardon in the Rose Garden this Thanksgiving.
PS - We’re not asking that the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon be revoked, just for equal time.
Respectfully yours,
PigPardon08
